My research career
PhD from the University of Genoa (Italy) (2017).
Assistant Professor of Crystallography and Mineralogy at the University of Valladolid (2022).
My activity
My scientific career began in 2010 when I completed my degree in Nuclear Physics at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Ciencias Aplicadas de La Habana (InsTEC, Cuba). In 2011, I joined the Center for Advanced Studies of Cuba, occupying a position as a Specialist of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), working on the characterization of materials by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF).
During my PhD at the Italian Institute of Technology (Genova, Italy) I developed functional materials, mainly electrospun polymeric fibers for the separation of water and oil emulsions. Subsequently I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the CellMat group at the University of Valladolid, developing functional materials from porous polymers, highlighting the implementation of new manufacturing and characterization techniques that allowed the foaming and study of electrospun fibers, with applications in various fields, from sensors to contaminated water treatment. In 2021 I joined the AHMat research group as a postdoctoral researcher, specifically within a research project focused on the physicochemical study of archaeological materials from the Pintia site, in particular pre-Roman glass beads, using techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, microscopy, colorimetry, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, and participating in measurement campaigns in large facilities such as the particle accelerator of the Louvre Museum and the BESSY-II synchrotron in Berlin. Finally, in 2022 I obtained a position as Assistant Professor in the Area of Crystallography and Mineralogy at the University of Valladolid, and I continue with my research both in the development of new functional materials and in the study of heritage.
