Physico-chemical analysis of glass beads from the Vacceo site of Pintia: a window into the past of Ribera del Duero (VA210P20).

Funding entity:

Principal investigator:

Javier Pinto Sanz
Crystallography and Mineralogy Associate Professor

Objectives:

To obtain the first detailed and statistically significant classification carried out in Spain in terms of the composition and internal structure of pre-Roman glass. The relationships obtained through these techniques and their association with the provenance, in terms of time, their typological systematisation, and their similarities with samples found in other sites in the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean, will improve the understanding of the Vaccean culture and, in particular, of its political and commercial relations with contemporary cultures, as well as enhance, preserve and facilitate accessibility through Information Technologies (ICT) to these archaeological assets.

Expected Results:

The first detailed database on pre-Roman glass in Spain and to develop a leading position in this field at national level.
